When young children have an active role in learning, they generate questions and test and modify all on their own. This lesson encouages students to develop and test a plan of their own to determine which material might be better for their superhero. Learning how to find out answers to questions is what science is all about! This lesson is a great opportunity to help children see themselves as scientists.

Is it a bird? Plane? It's FORCES!
This is a great introduction to the idea of force & motion! Children know that they can either push or pull their friends on a wagon. They know that the faster they pull, the faster the wagon goes. They know that when they crash one toy car into another, it shoves the car out of the way. Using their prior knowledge is a great way to connect these ideas as they discover more about pushes, pulls and FORCES!

Gadgets & Gizmos
Every Superhero loves their gadgets and gizmos! Whether they are on a vehicle or created to help someone, children will LOVE creating their own robotic hand. After seeing a model, children work to improve on the design and create their own improved version of a robotic hand. They also connect what they learn and discover about animal structures to make improvements based on what happens in the natural world.
