It's a bird...it's a plane...it's Super C.I.T.I.E.S.
The Super Combo Module seamlessly integrates mathematics and computer science, offering a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for students.
You can explore a variety of lessons by clicking on the links below then, elevate your learning experience by participating in a professional development (PD) session! During #TLCPD sessions, you will unlock additional resources, foster continuous learning, and infuse an extra layer of enjoyment into your educational journey! |

I Can be a Computer Scientist!
This activity is designed to set the stage for the weeklong experience. This lesson does not follow the same format as others as it is intended to generate excitment about activities for the week and get mTiny, the robot used during this module geared up in a Superhero mask! |
Road Mender
Superheroes are problem-solvers, and so are your young computer scientists! In this lesson, students will work together to repair the interrupted roads, allowing mTiny to journey through the town. Students will use algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, and collaboration to problem-solve. |
Bulldozer
In Superhero City there is construction happening! On the construction site, there are many different strategies and pathways the bulldozer can operate. During this lesson, students will be "constructing" an understanding of number relationships, counting concepts, and subitizing. As students bulldoze, they will be decomposing and reasoning about the quantity of 10 in various ways. All Superhero City construction workers communicate their thinking and solution strategies at the site during this lesson. |
Building Skyscrapers
Get ready to build skyscrapers for Superhero City! Students explore different types of skyscrapers that can be created using ten blocks. Students create and represent their thinking, look for patterns, investigate multiple solutions, and reason about their ideas. |
Getting my Superhero Ready
Superheros aren't that different from you and me! Students make real-world connections as they help their superhero get ready for the day. Students will use reasoning and problem-solving skills to select and sequence activities for their superhero. As they share their sequence with a peer, they will justify their thinking and begin to recognize that there are multiple solution pathways to a problem. |
Superhero Suitcases
This lesson is "packed" full of fun and comparisons! Students take on the important task of helping their superhero pack for a trip. The items they will be packing: coding cards that send programming signals to mTiny! During the debrief, students will make predictions about the coding cards and watch mTiny follow a path, as signaled by the sequence of cards. |
Superheroes in my World
In this lesson, students will think like a computer scientist and work in pairs to create an algorithm as they program mTiny to complete all of Superman's morning routine. To conclude the lesson, students will help the teacher debug a pathway. |
Where's my Cape?
The Superheroes are all ready for the day except one thing...they can't find their capes! A set of clues and the right questions are exactly what students need to find the cape! Once students think they have located the cape, they will design a program for mTiny to travel to get the cape so that mTiny is ready for Superhero City! As students navigate the clues and program, they use one-to one correspondence and the counting sequence. Students also engage in math concepts, such as: decomposing, composing, more, less, and subtizing. |
