Lesson 3: Cookie Designs
Students make sense of quantities using number relationships, operations and the properties of operations. Students engage in a rich mathematical task, build a model and represent their thinking to identify patterns that are related to numerical concepts (factors, multiples, divisibility, prime, composite). As students examine their representations and patterns, they create conjectures about what they notice, which are explored in greater detail in Lesson 5. The lesson concludes with a discussion relating mathematics understanding to computer science and programming. |
