Lesson 5: Adding Designs to the Mix!
Students use their knowledge of numerical and expression patterns to discuss and unpack a sequence of numbers or expressions, extend a pattern, and identify a rule associated with the pattern. Students then relate this to the role a computer scientist might do when analyzing a sequence or algorithm.

Students expand on pattern recognition during the investigation, as they explore what happens to cookies in a sequence as they add their new design to the program. Students examine how the sequence might change and what new patterns arise. Students then use this knowledge and conjectures from Lesson 3 to extend their mathematical reasoning and apply it to larger quantity.
